Several of you have mentioned that this function isn't working correctly.  I THINK I might have this figured out.

If you use RSS feeds to keep up with the discussion board, and you leave your browser open on your computer, then your computer keeps checking the discussion board for you, and "reads" the posts that show up in your RSS feed.

That's my theory anyway.  I'd be interested to know if anyone who DOES NOT use RSS feeds is having trouble with "Show unread posts since last visit."

If so, then I am wrong.

Don't tell Julie I said that.

I have slow dial up...I don't get "feeds" and today I went to the sight and clicked  on "show new posts since last visit."  There were supposedly none.  but I clicked on  "read unread posts"  and it brought up nine or ten.  Something is not as usual, but I wouldn't have a clue as to what it is.  I'm thankful for the computer gurus.

Actually, Mike, I beat you to that one.  I've been running regular maintenance lately and optimizing all the tables because I'm getting the same slow response.  Terry McCann sent me an e-mail about it, too.

I checked yesterday with Simple Machines (the people who actually write this software) and it looks like it's a function of GoDaddy, where I buy my hosting.  There were a few posts from people saying that their boards were running slow, and the common factor seemed to be GoDaddy.

So, while Danica Patrick (one of the GoDaddy spokesgirls) might go fast around the Nascar track, GoDaddy isn't exactly speedy right now.  Hopefully, they'll be updating servers soon or something that may speed things back up again.

I would consider leaving GoDaddy and going someplace else, especially since they have now decided to be the company that puts out the most risque Super bowl ad each year.  However, I don't know how to leave! And, after seeing all the problems Sue had when she changed hosting services, I'm even more hesitant to go to another provider.

If this keeps up, though, I'm going to have to look into something else.  It really has bogged down over the past few weeks.

Hey Guy

I'm with Deb - no RSS feeds, and the "show unread posts" doesn't work for me - for about the past two weeks or so.  And I'm too lazy to go searching for anything new!

So if I'm missing out on something really important (which, of course, I am), y'all are going to have to email me!

Thanks Guy, I know how hard it is to change something once you start something. Kinda like a rewrite isn't it!

Ironically, as of right now (about 7:30 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, April 17), all of the problems with the board have suddenly been fixed.

My unread topics are showing up, and the board is downright speedy.

Let's hope this keeps up!!
